Three gold medals in the middle distance final
Three gold medals were won on today’s middle distance final. With similar terrain to qualification, but longer and tougher courses the runners had to decide which is the best in contour-rich map near Zheleznica.
In women class, Sina Tommer (SUI) made a very good race starting from 6th position and taking the lead early in the race with really big time difference. It looked like nobody can beat her, but after 1 and a quarter hour Sara Hagstrom(SWE) came with absolutely the same time. Closest to them was another Swede girl Andrea Svensson taking the bronze medal. Places 4th and 5th were taken by Tilda Johansson(SWE) only 5 seconds from her teammate, Hunvor Hov Hoydal(NOR) – the world champion on Long distance. The last podium place was won by Zoe Harding (GBR) – simply great result for her.

In men class Miika Kirmula(FIN) has won by 1:21 min lead in front of Ricardo Scalet(ITA), which made very good run and also was a long time on the leader’s couch. It was first medal from the championships for Olli Ojanaho(FIN) finishing on 3rd position. First good run from Austrian runner as Xander Berger took the 4th place only 15 seconds after Olli. Another good result for New Zealand as Nick Hann took the 5th place. Jonas Egger from Switzerland finished 6th.
